Home Machine Quilting Show - SLC - 2012

I hope you enjoy this slideshow of just a small portion of the spectacular quilts displayed at HMQS in Salt Lake City this year.  I sadly ran out of time to take photos so this is just a mouth-watering taste of the eye candy that was there!

I also extend my most heartfelt apologies to those quilt artists who I was unable to acknowledge due to my own neglect in noting their titles and names beside their quilts!  I pledge to do better by you and your lovely creations next time!

And Now A Word FOR Our Sponsors . . .

I have been remiss lately at posting to my own blog, but I rarely miss a day checking on the rest of you.  I promise to do better, but just wanted to thank those generous and energetic bloggers who not only regale us regularly with tales (and beautiful photos) of their projects, but those who take the time to offer free tutorials for the rest of us and those who are generous enough to offer giveaways to their readers!

Recently, I won a giveaway from Quilt Taffy.  Quilt Taffy is a blog written by Corrie and Des, "Sisters living the Sweet Life in Idaho.  Taffy Talk is a type of chewy blog. Made by stretching or pulling a sticky mass of boiled creativity, butter-flavored ideas and coloring until fluffy......Much more than the left-over candy in your child's halloween loot."

Corrie and Des regularly provide free tutorials and sponsor giveaways for their lucky readers and this was my recent loot!

These gorgeous fat quarters are the Dessert Party line by Robert Kaufman.  If you want some for yourself, you can find them in Corrie and Des' Etsy Store.

Also, recently, I have been following a Quilt Along with Erin at Why Not Sew.  Erin is leading the rest of us in hand-piecing traditional quilt blocks.  I was reminded of when I asked my friend, Karen, if she wanted to take a hand-quilting class with me.  She replied, "Why would I want to do that when I own a Gammill?"  As you can tell, Karen lives closer to the "fast lane" than me!

Anyway, Erin's first block was the Churn Dash.  I truly enjoyed the quiet and introspective moments of hand piecing and am looking forward to more.

If you would like to jump on Erin's Hand Piecing Bandwagon, here's the link for Block One.

I truly appreciate these bloggers and their generous energies gifted to the rest of us.  If you have enjoyed someone's tutorial or won a giveaway, please send a quick thank you.  A written Thank You note never goes out of style!

Happy Holidays from Me to You!

Turn on your speakers!

This video from the small Yupiq Eskimo Village of Quinhagak, Alaska, was a school computer project intended for the other Yupiq villages in the area. Much to the villagers' shock, over a half million people have viewed it.

May the Joy of the Season fill your Hearts and Homes!  Enjoy!!!!

CALLING ALL WANTOBE QUILTERS!!!

Okay - all together now!  Give me an L . . . give me an O . . . give me an S . . . give me an E . . . give me an R!  Just call me LOSER!

Madame Samm's Wantobe Quilter Campaign has been in full steam since August 1st and I am just jumping on the Bandwagon now - I will spare you all my sorry excuses, but needless to say, let's get this party started!

The Fabulous Madame Samm, moderator of Sew We Quilt, is hosting a magnificent campaign for all "Experienced" Quilters and their protege "Wantobe" Quilters now through October 29th.  Generous sponsors are hosting daily giveaways (Saturdays and Sundays excluded) to include, but not limited to sewing machines, batting, patterns, fabric, cutting mats, rotary cutters, thread, scissors, rulers, books, magazines, DVDs . . . oh, my . . . it is making me a bit dizzy thinking of it all!

(Small, very very small disclaimer:  Winners are responsible for shipping charges)

I have excerpted some of the following rules from another of our great Mentor Bloggers, Stitchin' by the Lake, because she condensed everything together so beautifully!

Everyone is eligible! There are two categories: the first is for the new quilter, the person who wants to be a quilter but who doesn't have much in the way of equipment or supplies. There are prizes that will help you get that start you need...everything from thread to rotary cutters, from rulers to sewing machines. The second category is for the "old" quilter, the person who's been quilting for a while but who would love to win some great prizes to add to their stash.

Both groups of quilters register in the same way - you send your name, e-mail address and telephone number to a blogger who has the Wanttobe Quilter Campaign button on their blog, like the one I have posted. You must follow or subscribe to that person's blog as well as to Sew We Quilt aka Stash Manicure.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday all you new wanttobe quilters should read the post and COMMENT so that your name will be entered into the drawing. If you sign up with me you must leave my name in your comment every time...that's so I will also be eligible to win. :) If you're an experienced quilter you must comment on Tuesday and/or Thursday's post, also leaving my name. If you don't comment, you don't get entered that day.

Because all of the prizes are being shipped from Madame Samm (that's where all the sponsors are sending the goodies) you will have to pay postage because, heavens, with that many prizes, there's no way she could afford all that postage. I'm just so thankful that she has come up with this wonderful giveaway and is donating her time and labor to coordinate it - what a blessing that is for all of us!
So, what are you waiting for . . . get started NOW (or you will have to wear a LOSER badge like me -lol!)
HAVE FUN AND WIN SOME PRIZES!!!

A Hero In My World

I can't resist a shout-out to this beautiful face!!!

Jennifer McKendrick of Indiana County, PA self-employed photographer, says (among a few other choice statements) "If you are ugly on the inside, I’m sorry but I won’t take your photos to make you look pretty on the outside!"

Jennifer McKendrick - you rock!!!
